TERRAIN AND HUMAN OCCUPATION

Far North Queensland

This series developed as I travelled Far North Queensland. My vision was to give an overview of the terrain, and reflect the human element within the landscape. In collating the collection I also wanted to reflect, not only to the rich and different lives we live, but our many similarities, and shared humanity.

Travelling over a number of weeks, the project is limited by time, and subsequent geographical defined boundaries, contained to an inland area, that lies across the quasi-State geographical border of North and Far North Queensland, passing through the city of Charters Towers. This was a remarkable journey of colour, texture and relentless bright light, along with renowned Aussie spirit. I experienced some wonderful connections along this journey, and throughout, I was struck by the sense of resilience, community and mate-ship.

Cane Country: Bundaberg

Situated on the rich coastal plains of the Burnett River, Bundaberg, with its sub-tropical climate is a thriving agricultural area. Home to the iconic Bundaberg Rum distillery, which is a dominant landmark in the city character. Sugar cane plantations, first established in the 1880’s fostered the city’s continued growth and prosperity. A major centre for the region, local environs, along with its relaxed coastal hinterland, have secured Bundaberg as a popular tourist destination.
